KID’S PILATES

We all need to exercise, especially children. Our kids are in a formal school setting from the age of 4, which involves a lot of sitting, which in turn impacts their behaviour and posture.

It’s important to understand that physical development for them is mainly through play, at least up until the age of 7. It’s a given that kids love running around, jumping and bouncing.

The Beyond Move Kid’s Pilates is tailored to factor in their need for physical activity whilst also having fun. Our classes are like stories, they fire up their imagination, whilst doing some cool balancing exercises; such as one we like to call “The Moon Walk”.

The purpose of taking this approach is for them to not feel like they are exercising, but simply partaking in play. Play that improves their core strength, balance and posture. Efficient core strength not only helps during PE classes at school, it can also help children with their classroom learning. When core stability is absent, sitting and standing for extended periods in school can be difficult. Pilates can establish important muscles, memories and principles of movement, that children will use for their entire lives. It will also help to reduce the potential for injury now and as they continue to grow.

All exercises are age appropriate and low impact, supporting our belief that strenuous exercise regimes may not be beneficial for young children, and potentially harmful.

Let’s all work together to encourage our children to move, jump and have fun. Bring them along to try out the class!
